It's all in the detail...

It probably comes as no surprise that the most beautiful homes have that something extra. Maybe it's gorgeous windows, and if they come complete with transoms, more's the better. Or timber floors with a patina that only gets better with age. And it seems to me the ones I'm drawn to are invariably white, and of course I know I'm not alone there. So what better way to start the week off on the right foot, than with some Monday morning eye candy. Enjoy!

Flotsam and Jetsam

My heart skips a beat when I see a truly loved home. As far as I'm concerned, the best homes are the ones with soul and personality. Little bits and pieces gathered here and there, the flotsam and jetsam of a life well-lived, and quirky snippets and keepsakes are what elevates a home from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Perfect imperfection.

I don't quite know what to make of this, but I did tell you to expect the unexpected!

So, what's your favourite piece that makes your house uniquely you? I'd love to know what it is you cherish - maybe you've brought something back from a great holiday, or is it a family treasure handed down from a loved one? If you want to go one further and send me a photo, I'll do a follow-up post featuring your treasures in all their glory. Ooh, this could be fun!

Hello and Welcome!

So...my first post! I guess the best place to start is where my interest in interior design all began - poring over photos of beautiful houses.

For years I've stalked magazines and real estate websites in search of gorgeous homes to save in my "inspiration" file. Although many of these houses are a little on the expensive side, we can all steal ideas and snippets of their style to adapt to our own designs. We may not all live in upmarket beach houses, stately Queenslanders or heritage-listed period homes, but they all, in my opinion, have some key points in common. For me, these homes are elegant and relaxed, all feature natural materials such as stone and timber, and all exude a natural charm.

Here are a few lovelies I've saved over the years:
