Oh Seamstar, you are spoiling us

Ooh, lots of lovely new things for the Summer from spectacular online fabric store, Seamstar...

(from top down)

1. I love this sexy, retro-tinged African Queen print by California-based designer, Alexander Henry (£3.25 per ¼ metre, from a 110cm wide roll). I'm not sure I'd use it for cushions, but think it would be fantastic for a bit of light upholstery, chair seats perhaps, or as a bed runner or a roman blind in the loo.

2.  Or if you can't decide which of the Alexander Henry fabrics to choose, buy a bundle: £26 the lot, and each piece measures ¼ metre square. It looks good as it is – stick it on a prominent shelf and leave the sewing machine under cover.

3.  Circa 60 Beach Mod, £3.90 per ¼ metre for a 116cm wide roll, would make great curtains and quilts for a campervan – or pillow cases for an outdoorsy small person. The designer is another Californian, Jennifer Moore who runs Monaluna.

4. This bundle of vintage-inspired designs is by Heather Moore, from her Cut Out and Keep range. It costs £25.20 (per ¼ metre, from a 110cm wide roll) and would make a gorgeous gift – but hurry, there are just six left in stock.

5. Can't resist one more Alexander Henry. This is Mum in Pink, from the Griffith Park range. Again, it's £3.25 for ¼ metre, on a 110cm roll.

Momo Freebird Outdoors in Grass

Just got a colourful and cheery newsletter from the spectacular fabric and craft emporium, Seamstar. And 15 minutes later was still poring over the images of prints on their Flickr feed. This spring-like lovely is by Momo – and you can get all sorts of other chirpy and cheerful designs by them too. From owls to flowers, patchwork tweetiepies (from £2.80 for 1/4 metre) and bundles fabrics in the same family, starting at £14. Here are just a few options, all from the Momo range, to tempt you...

And, for luck, one from the Monaluna Organics range, below (couldn't resist it)

Trina and Schumacher

The other day I saw the new introductions in the Trina Turk for Schumacher line and I am in love. The punch of color from the indoor/outdoor (yes, that means kid friendly) fabric was just what I needed this time of year. More from the line...
Additional information and prints can be found on Schumacher's site. Thank you Cecily for the pictures and all your help!

Seamstar's fabulous fabrics

Seamstar is my new favourite website for window shopping. The fantastic fabric shop has such great taste - and they sell their wares in lots of handy types of package, such as this tonal bundle of small pieces of fabric, perfect for fronting cushion covers.

I can't believe I'd never heard of it, but it was my friend Holly's birthday the other day and her friend and sewing buddy, Deborah, gave her a bundle of of Seamstar's finest as a present. Being exceptionally stylish, she went for the Echino bundle, by the Japanese designer Etsuko Furuya - all edgy prints of things like bicycles and glasses
(see a few Furuya prints below or click on the link for Seamstar's selection). I was almost as excited as Holly was. Now all I need is to learn to sew. Or, rather, learn to have the patience to perfect my very basic sewing skills. Hmm. Meanwhile I'm enjoying the final suggestion on the website's tips about what to do with your chosen fabric bundle. Nice idea...

Seamstar says
- Perfect for making a quilt as each bundle comes colour coordinated and includes plain fabrics
- Due to their complimentary tones, they look great made into separate items on craft stalls
- They are great for just stocking up your fabric stash in some of your favourite colours
- No time to make stuff? Our bundles look lovely piled high on bookshelves and in sewing rooms

Lovely 'Lucky' Bunting by Xtina Lamb

There's something marvellously nostalgic about a bit of bunting. But as nostalgia has become big business, so the revival in bunting has often gone a little twee, girlie girlie and floral. Nothing wrong with any of that - but I've just seen so much of it.

So I was excited to discover illustrator Xtina Lamb's 'Lucky' bunting - a lovely set of cute illustrations symbolising good luck, from four-leafed clovers to black cats and horseshoes, on unusual shaped pieces of fabric. The flags cover a length of approx 150cm, with extra tape of about 70cm at each end (you can also request longer tape ends) and cost around £24. You can also commission specific designs.

Great for a stylish well-wishing party - or why not just hang above a kitchen window or bedroom mirror, to help you to feel lucky every day?

Xtina's Etsy shop, Printed Wonders, has some other nicely illustrated goodies too.

Florence Broadhurst cushions from John Lewis

Hot to trot: stunning new Florence Broadhurst-designed cushions from John Lewis (the fabric's reversable - the other side is black with cream outlines). Fans of the designer include Stella McCartney.
John Lewis has just started selling these lovely Florence Broadhurst cushions. But who is Florence Broadhurst?

I first heard about the inspiring and glamorous Australian singer/dress designer/artist/ fabric designer (1899-1977) a couple of years ago, when my very stylish sister-in-law, Michelle, who lives in Sydney, sent a link to an Australian website, Signature Prints, which had exclusively begun reprinting Broadhurst's fabrics.

She suggested I pick one out and she'd send it over as a birthday present, perhaps I could get some cushion covers made... Which I did (thanks to my very talented friend, Camilla). And the fabric I picked - from the fantastic array on SP's site - was this stunning double-sided horse print: Stampede. And clearly great minds think alike - as that's the one John Lewis picked for their Florence Broadhurst debut, too. But Broadhurst was prolific...

Signature Prints sells a vast array of Florence Broadhurst's fabric designs, some of which you can see above. The couple behind the website found all the prints in a storage space and now reproduce them all by hand, usingthe original screens. They do them as wallpapers too, and fans of the designer include Stella McCartney.

Fantastic vintage fabric

Who knew this stylish fabric store existed? Fancymoon.co.uk may have a rather odd name, but its selection of fabrics, both vintage and new, is lovely. I stumbled across this vintage 'Carribbean Vignette' design while looking for cushions/covers for my kitchen bench. It's totally not right, but I love it... and will now try to find somewhere else it might fit. I also don't need the 'Cowboy Vignette' fabric (£10.99 per metre), which is in the same vein as the Wild West-themed Cath Kidston print... but I'm working hard to find a reason to.

Fabulous floral tablecloth

Ooh, look at this lush Frida Kahlo-inspired flowery Mexican oilcloth with a bold, hibiscus print. Yum. It also comes in green, yellow, red, orange, pink...

Sadly it's come into my life too late - I had spotted it at Shoreditch's brightly styled Favela Chic bar, in east London, and hoped to find a wallpaper to replicate its sexy sunshine vibes for a wall in my kitchen. But the floral wallpaper out there, I found to be remarkably tame (a post on that will follow soon - there were some gems, just not the right gems for my kitchen wall).

I'd have found a way to hang this though, had I known - especially as it only costs £12 per metre. Find it at VivaLaFrida

See this could be me right?
Love everything about this chair but did you see the books in the background?
